Summer

It is hard to believe that schedules for Fourth of July celebrations are already in the online mix but, days melt off the calendar quickly.

Walloon Writers Review will be upping the ante this year for our Fourth edition, also cause for celebration 🎉 ! We are expanding size to better accommodate the number of prose submissions, increased and exciting photography submissions and create a little breathing room. We have packed in as many as possible since we started, a kind of tradition up here, like family up for the weekend and now, we are making room for more.

This gives both our contributors more elbow room, room for more selections and a bit more to read and review and enjoy. But, with that growth comes a new schedule, and a new deadline for submissions! Rather than the lazy ‘sometime after Labor Day weekend’, we ask that all submissions come to us no later than September 1st, 2018.

Watch for our Call For Submissions guidelines, opening date and theme. As always, our common denominator is this amazing area: Northern Michigan gems like Walloon, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Horton Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Mackinaw Island, and north over the bridge to Cedar, Les Cheneaux, Drummond, Hog Island, Manistique, Marquette, Escanaba and up the Keweenaw to Houghton and Calumet…and all the way to Menominee.

We welcome professional and first time publishing writers, photographers and artists, as sketches are welcome as an image. Please reflect the family friendly environment we created between these pages….ok to leave on the porch by the rocker to read…when it’s time to get out of the water, for visitors to enjoy and all of us to share our reflections, stories and nature photography of this very special place in the world….

We are also honored to include the First Place Winning selections from the Crooked Tree Art Center’s 16th Annual Young Writers Juried Exposition, in both poetry and prose, from area elementary, middle school and high school talented writers. Walloon Writers Review participates in this exciting event by sponsoring the opportunity to republish of these select entries in our magazine. We were in awe of the quality of writing that won First, Second, Third and even Honorable Mention this year and congratulate each of these students for stepping on the stage to give us their reading of their winning piece or accepting their award before the enthusiastic audience present that morning.
